I had always been wondering about this.
Now, not for the sake of showing off how good my English is, but still ok ok lah.. As I was grown up in an English educated family. When I was small, I speak English more than any other language. Even those random aunty uncle were kind of shock that they didn't know my English was that good.
So back then, my Mandarin sucks. My parents sent me to SJK C because they think that since they don't know Mandarin, so they should let us learn. Well, its our mother tongue, right? But well, when I have some difficulties or problem regarding about my studies, I cant ask anyone in my family because nobody know a single thing in Mandarin. How pity. And guess what? I have Kamus Dewan and Oxford dictionary but I don't even have a proper Mandarin dictionary at home. LoLz. Well, just that small small one and that was centuries ago.
But then, things changed when I was in secondary school. I thought that students in SMK speak in Malay or English but I never knew that whoa, actually everyone is speaking in Mandarin. So now, my Mandarin has improved a LITTLE. However, my English standard has dropped TREMENDOUSLY. Wei, no lar! Not that serious okay.
Well, I prefer speaking in Mandarin but writing in English. I just don't know why. However, I still prefer speaking in English when I'm outside. I feel like oh hello, why must you speak in Mandarin? Can't you speak in English? No. It's not arrogant.
So, to compare, my English is better that loads of people but of course, there are even more people having a better command of English than me. I'm really glad that I have an English base. Same like Mandarin, I'm always hanging around the poor and the good. Nonetheless, Ning Jui is way far better than me. duh. XD
Ok. The main point is, should I correct the person when he/she pronounce that particular word wrongly? Or should I just act dumb? You see. If I correct that person, he/she might feel embarrassed. If I don't, he/she will thought that he/she is correct and continue to pronounce that word wrongly. Furthermore, you need some guts to do so.
Hmmm....so should I or should I not? Will you or will you not?
